Challenge –
In this case, a professional golfer on the Asian Tour with a long standing career was feeling stagnant and not clear about what to change or focus on. Motivation was dropping and emotional control on the course was deteriorating.
Insight –
It’s common for seasoned athletes to feel they have enough experience to carry on with the same process that got them on the tour. But, for consistent performance that makes money on tour long-term, lacklustre habits are not good enough.
Intervention –
Renewed drive comes from incremental improvements in the factors that help you take control of your performance. We analysed the mind-set and actions in different performance states, refined rituals and routines that had become meaningless and habitual, and built a process in every area of the game that created intense focus and connection to the game.
Results –
Following an annual commitment to mental skills training, feeling less pressure, and renewed sense of motivation, 2016 saw a career record of 4 Top-Ten finishes and two wins in 2018.
